Why are visual supports important?
Visual supports are important to help remind children what is needed to be done on a day to day base. Some children with learning disabilities may have trouble remembering a daily schedule or routine such as brushing their teeth before they go to bed. For that, visual support is very important in a child’s everyday life.
Social story
Another example of visual support is a social story. Social stories help allow children to remember how to do something (as mentioned before). If a child always forgets to wash their hands after using the bathroom, a social story provides pictures and words of the steps to perform the cleaning of the hands. This simple tool is very helpful and can be used for any skill of learning.
